One HTML5 build, many portals
Most portals accept the same core: a ZIP of a web build with an index.html. What differs is the ad/SDK layer, the size limits and the exclusivity rules. Keep those parts swappable.
The common format
- itch.io: a ZIP that contains index.html; 500 MB extracted limit (itch.io docs, Portal Ready).
- Newgrounds: index.html must sit at the root of the ZIP, and the game loads in an iframe (Newgrounds wiki).
- Yandex Games: ZIP with index.html at the root, under 100 MB uncompressed (Yandex docs).
Size limits to design for
- YouTube Playables: initial bundle under 30 MiB (Google, via Portal Ready).
- CrazyGames: initial download of 50 MB or less (Portal Ready).
If you aim for the smallest limit from the start, the same build fits everywhere.
Make the SDK layer swappable
Nearly every portal requires its own SDK for ads and events: Poki, CrazyGames, GameDistribution, GameMonetize and Y8 all do (see each listing). GamePix allows only GamePix or Xsolla SDKs (GamePix). Put calls such as gameplayStart, commercialBreak and rewardedBreak behind a small adapter, and pick the adapter at build time. Playgama's Bridge SDK takes a similar "integrate once" approach (Playgama).
Watch the rules
- Exclusivity: Poki is web-exclusive (Portal Ready). Armor Games offers timed site exclusivity as one paid option (Armor Games). Decide which way you're going before you upload widely.
- Content: Coolmath Games doesn't allow violence, ads or external links (Coolmath).
- Completeness: GamePix accepts only complete games, not drafts or demos (GamePix guidelines).
- Generative AI: Armor Games asks you to disclose any generative AI use (Armor Games).
