How to Publish a Game on Poki: Testing, Requirements, Revenue Share
Poki is a curated web games platform that reports 100 million monthly players (Poki for Developers). Here is how getting on it works, according to Poki's documentation.
1. Upload a build (prototypes are fine)
Poki says uploading "works with prototypes too". The build doesn't need to be finished, because playtesting exists to improve early versions. Read the developer Terms & Conditions first, and run your build through the Poki Inspector, which checks SDK usage, mobile behaviour and the main technical requirements (Adding your game).
2. Content moderation, then playtests
New games go through a content moderation check before they can be tested. After that you request your first playtest and work through Poki's five-stage journey at your own pace. The docs refer to Web Fit testing, QA, Soft Release and Global Release (Poki docs). Portal Ready reports the web fit test takes about 7 days (Portal Ready).
3. Meet the hard requirements
From Poki's requirements page:
- Works on desktop, mobile and tablet, and on mobile covers the full screen.
- A 16:9 aspect ratio that scales to cover the canvas.
- Works in incognito mode: wrap localStorage calls in try/catch.
- No external requests: bundle your fonts, assets and libraries.
- No branding splash screens, outgoing links or external ads. Your studio logo on the loading screen is fine.
- Stays playable with an ad blocker active.
4. Integrate the Poki SDK correctly
The SDK is required for Web Fit testing and every release. Common mistakes Poki lists: firing gameplayStart() twice in a row, firing it on load instead of the player's first input, and calling commercialBreak() anywhere other than when returning to gameplay. Poki also says players tend to leave if loading takes more than 10 seconds, so keep the initial download small (requirements).
5. Monetization rules
- In-app purchases aren't available. Poki's ads are the only monetization (Poki).
- Rewarded ads are optional extras, never a gate. Every rewarded button needs a standard alternative next to it; rewarded buttons can't be green and must carry a 🎬 icon.
- Don't add your own ad timers, because Poki manages ad frequency.
Revenue and exclusivity
You get 100% of revenue from players who come to your game directly, and a split for players Poki sends (Poki). Portal Ready reports 50/50 for Poki-sourced players and a web-exclusive deal (about 5 years indicative). Read the actual terms before you sign.
